The transport roller has a roller body arranged rectangular around a traverse direction of a metal sheet. The roller body has a bearing surface (3) concentric to a rotary axis of the roller body and is manufactured in the area of the bearing surface made of ceramic. The roller body is formed by a carrier (1) and two ball races (2) concentric to the rolling rotary axis and radial outward from the surface of the carrier. The ball races have ceramic and have a smooth cylindrical outer side as the bearing surface for the metal sheet. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a roller hearth furnace with a furnace room; and (2) a method for manufacturing a transport roller.
