The controllable brake (1) comprises an actuator (4), which is set in a housing (5) in axially movable manner and is spring-loaded in the braking direction (7) by the force of a spring (8). The actuator is admittable by the force of an electromagnetic force transducer. The housing is also displaced axially and interacts with a retaining unit (11) for the axial movement. The housing is fixed in different axial positions over the retaining unit.
