The system (8) has two cameras (10a, 10b) and navigation markers (12a, 12b) with marker elements (22a, 22b), which are detected by the cameras and identified in camera images (20a, 20b). One of the marker elements defines a plane, and the other marker element is arranged outside the plane. An evaluation unit (16) determines relative positions (ZI, ZR) of the navigation markers toward the cameras based on a position of images of the marker elements. The marker elements are differentiated with respect to color and geometry of the navigation markers. An independent claim is also included for an X-ray system comprising an X-ray device and a navigation system.
