The solid fuel furnace (4) has a combustion chamber (36) for the combustion of solid fuel, particularly charcoal or timber, and a heating coil (30). The heating coil is moved between a heating position in a heat region of the combustion chamber and a position outside of the heat region of the combustion chamber. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a heating system; and (2) an industrial water heating plant.
