The method involves delaying a vehicle i.e. motor car, by longitudinal beam structure portions (1a, 1b) of different deformation resistances during front crash and during laying of response time of a vehicle occupants restraint system. A force level of one of the longitudinal beam structure portions is lowered to a determined low value such that the vehicle is delayed in a lower range till reaching forward displacement of vehicle occupants, so that the occupants are coupled at the restraint system over a longer period of time during reduced loading of thorax of the occupants. An independent claim is also included for a device for improving occupant protection in a vehicle during front crash at point of time.
