The sensor (1) has a light source (10) i.e. laser, with a first optical fiber (40), and a light detector (20) with a second optical fiber (50), where the regions of the light source and the detector opposite ends of the respective first and second optical fibers are arranged in an exhaust gas system such that the following happen. The light portion of the light source irradiated into the first optical fiber is irradiated into soot particles in the exhaust gas and is later guided into the detector by the second optical fiber to determine the concentration of the soot particles. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for manufacturing a soot sensor (2) a method for detecting soot particle concentration in exhaust gas.
