The method involves connecting a predetermined number of rechargeable battery units (12-1-n) by an electronic control unit (14), where a network-independent supply is formed by the battery units. Power is supplied by the battery units to a load (16). The battery units are subjected to a charging process while supplying power to the load and reaching a predetermined discharge state of currently attached battery units by the electronic control unit by switching to other battery units. An independent claim is also included for an arrangement for optimizing utilization of a network-independent supply of a load.
