The control device (1) is reversible between a manual mode in which the speed control is incumbent on a rider and an automatic mode into which velocity is controlled on the basis of a reference value selected by the rider. Actual speed of a vehicle i.e. motor car, exceeds the reference value in an overrun mode to enable the switchover into the automatic mode according to a given wait time. The vehicle is moved when the actual speed of the vehicle exceeds the reference value and if the control device is switchover into the automatic mode. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for controlling speed of a vehicle (2) a computer program product comprising a set of instructions to perform a method for controlling speed of a vehicle (3) a machine-readable data carrier comprising a set of instructions to perform a method for controlling speed of a vehicle.
