The device (1) has an application tool (10) whose movement is partly controlled manually, and including a centering unit that is fastened at application position of a closure element of a component (3) for adjusting the application tool relative to the application position. The application tool is locked in vertical and/or horizontal positions and rotated about longitudinal axis after loosening the attachment of the centering unit such that an application unit is guided at the component by the rotation of the application position. An independent claim is also included for a method for applying a closure element on a component.
