The device has a control unit (2) controlling charging-and final charging processes. Charging-and discharging units (3-1-3-n) comprise a voltage converter. Batteries (1-1-1-n) are operated by the charging-and discharging units as an energy source, where the charging-and discharging units are alternately steered by the control unit. The batteries provide an output voltage via the converter. The output voltage exceeds a rated voltage of the batteries. Compensation of energy losses emerging during charging and discharging the batteries is carried out by a net-coupled power supply (5). An independent claim is also included for a method for alternately charging and discharging a battery.
