The method involves providing a magnetic body (5) in a wall (1) of a right ventricle (3) and/or a wall (2) of a left ventricle (4) of a heart of a patient, where the magnetic body is made of magnetic or magnetizable material. Force is produced in the magnetic body for supporting contraction of the ventricles using magnetic gradient field during ventricle contraction. The gradient field is controlled by a cardiac pacemaker of the patient, and contraction frequency of the ventricles is detected by an ultrasonic device for controlling the gradient field. An independent claim is also included for a device for treating cardiac insufficiency, comprising a magnetic system.
