The method involves measuring a rotational behavior of the individual wheels. The wheel slip, the delay action and the acceleration of individual wheels and other control variables are evaluated for determining a vehicle reference speed. The threshold value of the wheel slip is predetermined for the insertion of the anti-lock braking system-control. A threshold of the anti-lock braking system-control is set from the road surface evaluation unit depending on the road surface texture. An independent claim is also included for an electronic motor vehicle brake system with an electronic control device.
