The device (100) has a monitoring mechanism that is configured to be deactivated when the monitoring mechanism is exposed to in-vivo substances native to a small bowel or a colon. A degradable device body comprises a body portion that degrades at a rate when exposed to in-vivo substances native to the small bowel and at another rate when exposed to in-vivo substances native to the colon, where the former rate is slower than the latter rate. The degradable device body is degraded to expose the monitoring mechanism to substances native to the small bowel or the colon. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for determining presence of a stricture in small bowel (2) a system for determining presence of strictures in small bowel.
