The method involves producing composite beam that includes speech components together with sound having frequency components, where the speech components include human speech and/or synthetic speech. The composite beam is transmitted to a modem (81) over a cellular speech channel of a wireless communication system (14). The composite beam is produced such that a power ratio of the speech components to the sound is equal to null decibel, where the sound is continuous and the speech components are interrupted. An independent claim is also included for a method for transmitting data between a vehicle and a call center over a speech channel of a wireless communication system.
