The method involves coupling a fly wheel (5) of a motor vehicle with a damper mass (8) by a coupling unit with adjustable stiffness. The stiffness of the coupling unit is a function of an effective frequency of the damper. The effective frequency is determined from the angular velocity or the angular acceleration of the flywheel or the damper mass. An independent claim is also included for an arrangement for controlling a speed-adaptive damper in a drive train of a motor vehicle.
