The method involves operating an electric traction drive (8) of a hybrid drive train (1) as a generator during a braking operation, where the drive train has an internal combustion engine (2). Electrical energy is stored in energy storage, and used in drive mode to drive a motor vehicle. Functions of the engine, the drive and the storage are controlled by a control unit (10). The driver is haptically informed about a power reserve available in the drive train. A pedal counter force is generated as haptic information for an accelerator pedal of the vehicle.
