The method involves determining global motion parameters for a frame, which is stabilized, and computing motion vectors for edge blocks of the frame with respect to an adjacent frame. Candidate blocks are generated by the computed motion vectors of the edge blocks and global motion vectors for a block behind an actual frame, where the global motion vectors are predicted by global motion parameters. One of the candidate blocks is selected as a new block, and the selected candidate block is partially placed within an external border of a stabilized version of the actual frame. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a system for executing video stabilization (2) a computer program comprising instructions to perform a method for executing video stabilization.
