The method involves supplying a direct current (DC)-portion with a direct voltage of a battery (1). Power switches resting directly at a high-side (HV+) and a lower-side (HV-) are interconnected corresponding to high-side and low side-interconnecting conditions. High side-insulation voltage between the high-side and a mass and low side-insulation voltage between the low-side and the mass are measured in the conditions. A determination is made whether an insulation fault is present in the DC-portion or alternating current portion based on measurement results. An independent claim is also included for a device with a measuring unit for executing a method for locating an insulation fault in an electrical system.
