The switch (4) has a reference sensor surface (10) generating a reference signal for determining an actuation state of the switch. Signal portions of the reference signal are proportional to the capacitance of a reference capacitor that is formed with the sensor surface (10). Capacitance of the reference capacitor is determined by surrounding conditions of an electronically conductive sensor surface (7). The surface (10) is isolated by an air film between a carrier and a cover plate (2) opposite to the changes in charges at a front side of the cover plate during contact by a user.
