The invention relates to a fixing element for fixing structural elements to a metal support structure, more particularly plate-like interior lining elements or other interior elements to a vehicle support structure. The fixing element comprises at least a first part (1) with a bottom side (7) which provided with one or more spacer ribs (9, 10) which protrude from the bottom side (7) for maintaining a space between the bottom side (7) and the support structure. This space is provided for accommodating a glue layer. The method for fixing structural elements to a metal support structure by means of these fixing elements comprises the steps of: (a) placing the first part (1) of each fixing element with its bottom side (7) on the support structure; (b) applying glue to the space between the bottom side (7) and the support structure until said space is substantially completely filled with glue; and (c) suspending the structural elements on the first parts (1) of the fixing elements.
