PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress any play of a rack shaft of a steering mechanism of a steering device at low cost.;SOLUTION: A steering mechanism 5 of a center-takeoff type steering device 1 comprises a cylindrical rack housing 15 having an oblong hole 34 extending in the longitudinal direction U, a fitting bracket 39 for fitting an inner end 28 of each tie rod 28 to a rack shaft 14, and a slider 38 which is interposed between the fitting bracket 39 and the rack shaft 14 and slides on an inner circumference 34a of the oblong hole 34. The inner circumference 34a of the oblong hole 34 and the slider 38 have slidable contact parts 34b, 38c to be slidably brought into contact with each other as the slider 38 slides.
