The method involves comparing a list of records e.g. identifiers, of characteristics of data stored by a mail server (2) and obtained during current periodic distribution of the data and another list of records of characteristics of data transmitted during previous distribution. The comparison between the two lists of records is performed to identify records relative to new data, and to transmit the new data and the corresponding records to a mobile (3) i.e. portable telephone, where the new data is data that are not transmitted during the previous polling. An independent claim is also included for an equipment for implementing a traffic reduction method.
