Composition (A) comprises, in a medium: one or more oxidation bases comprising 2-[{2-[(4-aminophenyl)amino]ethyl}(2-hydroxyethyl)amino]ethanol (I) or its addition salts with an acid; and one or more cationic polymers. Independent claims are included for: (1) dyeing keratin fibers, comprising applying (A) to the keratin fibers optionally in the presence of an oxidizing agent; and (2) a multi-compartment device comprising: a first compartment containing (A) and optionally one or more couplers and one or more additional oxidation base different from (I), and a second compartment containing a composition comprising one or more oxidizing agents; or a first compartment containing one or more oxidation base comprising (I), and optionally one or more oxidation bases different from (I) and optionally one or more couplers, a second compartment containing a composition comprising the cationic polymers, and optionally a third compartment containing a composition comprising one or more oxidizing agents.
