The device has a shifting finger (5) displaced with respect to drive arms (7b, 11, 11a, 11b) to select and displace one of the arms. A locking system i.e. interlocking key, locks the arms. The locking system has a locking stage (3a) and another locking stage (3b) provided with locking units i.e. locking lugs (15a-15c), which avoid displacement of unselected arms in an opposite direction when a forward gear ratio is selected. The locking units permit limited displacement of one of the arms provided with a partial unlocking unit i.e. notch, when the reverse gear ratio is selected.
