The process of making an assembly of parts using a computer, comprises establishing a digital model in three dimensions of each part comprising its own reference and forming a virtual template of each part, setting the digital model with respect to a reference of a workstation (2), producing a video image of the workstation using an image acquisition unit, analyzing the resulting images for determining the position of the image acquisition unit with respect to the reference of the workstation and positioned on the workstation, and producing a video image of the digital model. The process of making an assembly of parts using a computer, comprises establishing a digital model in three dimensions of each part comprising its own reference and forming a virtual template of each part, setting the digital model with respect to a reference of a workstation (2), producing a video image of the workstation using an image acquisition unit, analyzing the resulting images for determining the position of the image acquisition unit with respect to the reference of the workstation and positioned on the workstation, producing a video image of the digital model or part of it is seen by the camera if it is real, and overlaying the video image of the digital model or part of it on video image of the workstation. The process further comprises establishing a chronology of different stages of assembly of parts for making the assembly, where the each assembly operation includes generating a virtual image of the part for introducing in the component set during process, generating an image of the state of progress of the component set, setting the two images one over the other so that the virtual image with respect to the assembly occupies the spacing for occupying the part for introducing in the assembly, and displaying two images superimposed on same display screen. A real-time detection of defects is carried out by comparing the image of the performed assembly and the image of the digital model of the assembly. An independent claim is included for an installation for making an assembly of parts using a computer.
