Internal combustion engine's i.e. direct injection engine, cycle determining method for vehicle, involves identifying top dead centers with ignitions having parity related to large production of engine output torque
The method involves detecting a cyclic mark in characteristic engine output of positions of engine during an engine cycle, where the mark is an irregularity on circumference of a toothed wheel secured to a crankshaft. A preset ignition cycle is applied to the engine during engine cycles to count detection of mark, where the preset ignition and engine cycles have a period of rotation angle of 720 degrees in engine output. Top dead centers are identified with ignitions having parity related to large production of engine output torque. An independent claim is also included for a method for synchronization of cycles of an internal combustion engine including odd number of cylinders with ignition cycles.
