The method involves notifying a test curve, which indicates values of electrical resistance between two ends (25, 29) of an electric conductor (27) while maintaining electric current (I) in the conductor. Existence of a hot spot between the ends of the electrical conductor is signaled when the test curve is detected with respect to changes in resistance of the conductor. The test curve is detected when the test curve exceeds templates. The templates are generated by amplification of reference curves. An independent claim is also included for a device for signaling a hot spot between ends of an electrical conductor.
