The method involves detecting a movable obstacle (6) e.g. semitrailer, located upstream of a vehicle (5), where the obstacle moves in a flow direction and at speed lower than that of the vehicle. A longitudinal shift (D) between a front end (6A) of the obstacle and a front end (7) of a side zone of the vehicle is determined. The determination is reproduced with a regular interval as long as the shift is greater than zero. An order for issuing an alarm signal for attention of a driver of the vehicle is transmitted to a warning module. The alarm signal is emitted by the warning module.
