The piston (3) has a central cavity in a form of a bowl (1), and a lip (13) arranged at an upper periphery of the bowl. Flat upper crown (9) has a radial channel (15) extending along a radial axis with respect to a central axis (z). The radial channel is arranged in the crown of the piston, where the channel is opened on the lip. The radial channel has a length that is equal to half of the width of the upper crown. The channel has two lateral walls defining a trapezoid transversal section. An independent claim is also included for a direct-injection internal combustion engine comprising a combustion chamber.
