The device has a lighting unit (101) e.g. compact fluorescent lamp, with a light power, and another lighting unit (103) with LED. A regulation module (105) is connected to the lighting units. The regulation module is adopted for controlling the later lighting unit based on the measured luminosity level in the region and controlling the lighting units based on the presence of the individuals in the region. The regulation module is adopted for deactivating the later lighting unit, when the measured luminosity is greater than predetermined luminosity threshold. An independent claim is also included for a method for optimized lighting a region of a space.
