The beam (10) has a cross-piece (12) extending along transversal direction and comprising a central section (23) and two lateral end sections (25, 26). Two fixing base plates (14, 15) fix the cross-piece on a structure of a motor vehicle. The base plates are located at a level of the end sections and on both sides of the central section. An opening is maintained in the end sections of the cross-piece for fixing an attachment hook, and is laterally shifted on a side of the vehicle. The opening is located at a same height in both configurations. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a front/rear assembly comprising two members that are spaced transversely (2) a process for manufacturing a series of motor vehicles.
