Method for detecting the presence of an enzyme comprising cephalosporinases, extended spectrum beta -lactamases (ESBLs) and carbapenemases, comprises: (a) suspending the bacteria in a liquid composition comprising a chromogenic or fluorogenic substrate capable of releasing a chromophore or fluorophore after hydrolysis by the enzyme to detect; and (b) detecting the possible release of the chromophore or fluorophore, where the detecting the release of the chromophore or fluorophore in step (b) indicates the presence of an enzyme cephalosporinases, ESBLs and carbapenemases. An independent claim is included for method of in vitro detection of microorganisms resistant to cephalosporins of 3rd generation, implementing the method.
