The method involves initializing a turbine engine at the time of a starting phase. An electric machine (20) is controlled in a driving mode with synchronous reluctance by injecting alternative current in stator windings (24a-24c) of the electric machine. Starting torque is generated without contribution of a rotor inductor (22) of the electric machine, where the rotor inductor of the electric machine comprises variable reluctance according to an angular position of a stator. An independent claim is also included for a starter-generator for a turbine engine including an electric machine.
