PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely detect not only a specified environment but also the starting end and the terminating end of the range of fillet welding.;SOLUTION: Proximity sensors 3j, 3k are provided in the neighborhood of guide rollers 3h, 3i which are rolled on a plate material A and a plate material B to which fillet welding is applied, on a welding device 1 having a truck 3 which runs on the plate material A. Proximity sensors 3p, 3q for detecting the plate material A on which the truck 3 runs are respectively provided on the side faces 3l, 3m of the truck 3. An eddy current type sensor which detects the plate material made from a magnetic material is used for each of the proximity sensors 3j, 3k, 3p, 3q. When either of the proximity sensors 3p, 3q does not come to detect the plate material A, or when either of the proximity sensors 3j, 3k does not come to detect the plate material B, the welding with a welding torch 5 is stopped.
