PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide markers for distinguishing between tumors which will or have metastasized and those which are less likely to metastasize.SOLUTION: The invention relates to methods for predicting the behavior of tumors. More particularly, the invention relates to methods in which tumor samples are examined for expression of a specified gene sequence, and thereby, showing tendency of spread of metastasis. A polynucleotide sequence represented in a specific sequence is associated with a metastatic potential of cancer cells (especially breast cancer cells). There is provided methods for determining the risk of metastasis of a tumor by determining whether a tissue sample derived from a tumor expresses a polypeptide or mRNA encoded by a polynucleotide. Therapeutic methods and compositions are also provided.
