PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a search omission area setting function generation method capable of efficiently searching for an object.;SOLUTION: The search omission area setting function generation method includes: making a template for searching a model image for an object correspond to a specified search point in the model image and detecting a specified search point similarity between the specified search point and template; detecting a peripheral search point similarity between each of a plurality of peripheral search points at the periphery of the specified search point in the model image and the template when the specified search point similarity exceeds an object detection determination threshold; estimating relative positions of the object and template based upon a distribution of peripheral search point similarities; and generating a function for setting a search omission area of the object based upon the estimated relative positions.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT
