PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a preparation method for a sulfur-modified monolithic porous carbon-based material using impregnation with a strong sulfur-based acid, and an electrode intended for use in energy storage systems using a material having supercapacitance characteristics that can be obtained by the preparation method.SOLUTION: The preparation method for a sulfur-modified monolithic porous carbon-based material includes the following steps: (i) a step of drying a gel including at least one type of hydrophilic polymer of a polyhydroxybenzene/formaldehyde type; (ii) a step of pyrolyzing the material obtained during the step (i); a step (iii) of impregnating the material resulting from the step (ii) with a strong sulfur-based acid; and (iv) a step of heat treating the sulfur-modified material ultimately obtained in the step (iii) at a temperature between 300°C and 500°C, preferably 350°C and 500°C, and more preferably between 300°C and 400°C.
