PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a use of glycerol obtained from renewable raw materials, as starting product for producing organic compounds.SOLUTION: A process for producing dichloropropanol includes: subjecting glycerol to a reaction with a chlorinating agent containing hydrogen chloride in a liquid reaction medium; and continuously or periodically withdrawing a fraction comprising at least water, dichloropropanol and the hydrogen chloride, wherein the fraction is introduced to a distillation step. The sum of materials introduced to this distillation step has a hydrogen chloride concentration which is lower than the hydrogen chloride concentration in the binary azeotropic composition of hydrogen chloride/water at the pressure of the distillation.
