PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a near-field light generating element capable of improving efficiency of generating near-field light by highly accurately positioning a near-field light generation part and a core; and to provide a method for generating the near-field light generating element, a near-field optical head, a method for manufacturing the near-field optical head, and an information record reproducer.;SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing the near-field light generating element includes: a first clad forming step for forming a first clad 24a on a substrate 120; a near-field light generation part forming step for forming a metal film base material 151 on the first clad 24a; a core forming step for forming a core base material in such a manner as covering the metal film base material 151; a patterning step for patterning the core base material and the metal film base material 151 to form a core 23 and a metal film 51; and a second clad forming step for forming a second clad 24b in such a manner as clamping the core 23 between itself and the first clad 24a.
