PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for detecting a melt status during melt processing of radioactive waste, in which the timing to appropriately complete melting can be accurately detected.;SOLUTION: The present invention relates to an apparatus for detecting a melt status during melt processing of radioactive waste in which the radioactive waste in an arc furnace A is melted and processed by a heat source. The apparatus comprises: a radiation detection sensor C for detecting a horizontal component in radioactive rays radiated from a specific position in the arc furnace A while using the radioactive waste subjected to processing, and for sending out a radiation strength signal representing a strength of radiation of specific nuclide; and an arithmetic processing unit D for detecting the melt status of the radioactive waste at the specific position by grasping a move status of the radioactive waste at the specific position on the basis of a change in the radiation strength represented by the radiation strength signal with the passage of time.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT
