The transportable measurement probe is mounted on a long arm (3) which may be moved along a long line of electrolysis baths (1). Transmitter-receiver units (4) for an IPS (Indoor Positioning System) may be mounted in the ceiling and high-up on the walls of the electrolysis hall. The measurement probe may determine the temperature of molten metal or molten cryolite and may be dipped into the contents of each electrolysis bath in turn on the end of the long arm. An evaluation unit (2) is fastened to the wall at the end of the hall.
