PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a zoom lens equipped with a reflection surface for reflecting an optical path, that is advantageous to the thickness reduction of the whole apparatus, and that has improved aberration correcting performance.;SOLUTION: The zoom lens includes, in order from an object side: a first lens group G1 having positive refractive power; a second lens group G2 having negative refractive power; a third lens group G3 having positive refractive power; and a fourth lens group G4 having positive refractive power; wherein a brightness diaphragm S is disposed between the second lens group G2 and the third lens group G3, and in varying the power from a wide angle end to a telephoto end, a distance between respective lens groups is changed, the first lens group G1 comprises: a single lens having negative refractive power; a reflection optical element P having the reflection surface for reflecting the optical path; and a sub lens group having positive refractive power.
