PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for determining stress during work, objectively determining the stress during work such as driving of an automobile by quantitatively measuring "strain" caused in the masseter for opening and closing the jaw of a subject by stress.;SOLUTION: As shown in Fig.1, this apparatus 10 for evaluating stress during work is configured to evaluate stress during work by measuring the myoelectric potential of the masseter muscle during object work done by activities of muscles independent of the activities of opening and closing the jaw of a subject done by the right and left masseter muscles. The apparatus includes: a detecting sensor for detecting myoelectric potential of the right and left masseter muscles, which are generated by the activities of the masseter muscles during work; an amplifier 16, which amplifies the myoelectric potential of the right and left masseter muscles detected by the detecting sensor; a myoelectric data processing part 22, which generates a cocontraction waveform of the right and left masseter muscles from a time series data of the myoelectric potential of the amplified right and left masseter muscles, and calculates the cocontraction strength of the right and left masseter muscles from the cocontraction waveform; and an evaluating part 28, which evaluates stress during work using the calculated cocontraction strength.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT
