PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steel for high speed cold working having excellent cold workability during working and exhibiting satisfactory hardness after working, and to provide a method for producing the steel for high speed cold working.;SOLUTION: The steel for high speed cold working has a composition containing 0.03 to 0.6% C, 0.005 to 0.6% Si, 0.05 to 2% Mn, ≤0.05% P, ≤0.05% S and 0.008 to 0.04% N, respectively, and the balance iron with inevitable impurities, wherein the imputities satisfy ≤0.001% Al, ≤0.002% Ti, ≤0.001% Nb, ≤0.001% V, ≤0.001% Zr, ≤0.0001% B, ≤0.0001% Ta and ≤0.0001% Hf, and also satisfying 14[Al]/27+14[Ti]/47.9+14[Nb]/92.9+14[V]/50.9+14[Zr]/91.2+14[B]/10.8+14[Ta]/180.9+14[Hf]/178.5≤0.002%.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
