PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To develop a novel catalyst capable of being used in the production of an alkylaromatic compound and/or a dialkylaromatic compound to thereby provide a very low elution, high activity, and high-performance catalyst.;SOLUTION: The heteropoly acid salt catalyst is one consisting mainly of heteropoly acid salt crystals having an average particle diameter of 300 nm or smaller and is used in the alkylation of an aromatic compound and the transalkylation, disproportionation, or isomerization of an alkylaromatic compound. The average particle diameter is determined in the following way. Particles of a heteropoly acid salt catalyst of formula (1) are observed with an electron microscope, the diameters of the individual particles in a photograph in a randomly extracted visual field are measured, and the arithmetic mean of the diameters is adopted as the average particle diameter.
