PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for stably cooling a superconducting member with subcool liquid nitrogen, which prevents pressure reduction due to condensation of nitrogen gas in the vicinity of liquid level of the liquid nitrogen and prevents the liquid nitrogen from reaching at a saturation temperature due to the pressure reduction even under vibration conditions.;SOLUTION: The cooling device for a superconducting member comprises at least a heat insulation vessel (V1) for accommodating the subcool liquid nitrogen with a nitrogen gas space left therein, a refrigerating machine for immersing a cooling head for cooling to a position lower than the liquid level of the liquid nitrogen, and a superconducting member which is immersed in the subcool liquid nitrogen and is an object to be cooled. The cooling device for the superconducting member has a glass fiber paper filled layer (L1) provided therein, in which glass fiber paper sheets having absorptivity for the liquid nitrogen are filled so as not to form a gap between the glass fiber paper sheets and between the glass fiber paper sheets and the wall face of the heat insulation vessel (V1), over a range from a position that is higher than the liquid level of the liquid nitrogen in the heat insulation vessel (V1) to a top face part of the cooling head or a position higher than the top face part of the cooling head, and which is for forming and holding a temperature gradient layer of the subcool liquid nitrogen.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT
