PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color image forming apparatus which achieves reduction in color shift by skew correction by image shifting and which does not carry out excessive correction of a striped noise image caused by density shift due to the skew correction. PSOLUTION: The density correction part 1353 of a skew correction processing part 135 includes; a function which calculates a density value which is obtained by adding an image density data value in a marked region comprised of pixels in a prescribed region with the marked image as a center which is in contact with an image shift position when image data are shifted by using shift correction information and the image data, a function which detects whether a local increase or decrease in the density occurs in the marked pixel due to variation in adjacent relationship of pixels, a function which decides whether or not the density value in the marked region is within a density region where density correction is not needed, and a function which executes density correction processing for the marked pixel or the pixel adjacent to the marked pixel when the density correction is needed as the results of the decision.
