PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an earth retaining method efficiently installing an earth retaining member even in a hard ground, and preventing a ground from being settled owing to the vertical installation of the earth retaining member.;SOLUTION: In this earth retaining method, a cylindrical casing 11 is attached to an earth retaining member 15, the earth retaining member 15 is vertically installed in the ground while carrying out excavation by an excavating member 10 having a spiral blade 13, and an excavating tool 10 and the casing 11 are pulled up to the ground while reversely rotating the excavating tool 10.
