PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal recording material whose re-coloring performance is not lowered even when a waste paper pulp is incorporated in a substrate and which can remarkably decrease electrolytic corrosion of a thermal head, and to provide a thermal recording method capable of suppressing the electrolytic corrosion of the thermal head. PSOLUTION: In the thermal recording material which has a thermal recording layer comprising a leuco dye, a developer, a binder and an ion exchange resin on the substrate, and in which the substrate contains the waste paper pulp, both a cation exchange resin and an anion exchange resin are used as the ion exchange resin.
