PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To instantly detect regenerating chatter vibration during machining.;SOLUTION: Vibration data of a tool 4 during machining a workpiece is obtained with a predetermined sampling period Δt. Based on the obtained time-series vibration data, an autocorrelation coefficient Rxx' of the time required for cutting blades 4a, 4b to contact the workpiece W a plurality of times is calculated. The cycle Tx of the characteristic of the calculated autocorrelation coefficient Rxx' is also calculated.
